Chat GPT in History Teaching
The project utilizes an interactive website with a Chat GPT model, allowing students to engage in conversational learning and enhance critical use of sources and their understanding of historical concepts and narratives.
About the project
The “Chat GPT in History Teaching” project introduces a novel approach to history education by leveraging the power of AI. Through an interactive website, students are provided with a unique learning experience where they can engage in conversations with a Chat GPT model specifically designed for historical inquiries. By using natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, the Chat GPT model can comprehend and respond to students’ questions, prompts, and discussions, facilitating a dynamic and personalized learning environment.
The APIs and website designed for the project will be used in the BA-course “Introduction to historical consciousness”, tought by Apostolos Spanos at the University of Agder. The design of applications is related to Bloom’s taxonomy of learning outcomes (in its revised version by Anderson and Krathwohl in 2001), which includes the following levels: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating.
The application-based use of ChatGPT will be the starting point for critical reflections on various issues related to history and historical consciousness, as for example the trustworthiness of sources, the limits of historical knowledge, the understanding and application of historical data and historical concepts, as well as for metacognitive reflections on the students’ learning strategies and techniques.
The project is financed by the University of Agder.
